LNB adapter ring selection guide

The IceConeFeed mounts on your LNB through a 61 mm hole in the reflector base plate. The LNB neck has to fill that hole to clamp square and stay put. Whether you need an adapter ring depends only on your LNB’s neck diameter.

  • Neck about 61 mmno adapter — it seats in the plate directly (for example the Bullseye TCXO LNB).
  • Neck smaller than 61 mm → an adapter ring shims it up to 61 mm.
  • Neck larger than 61 mm → it does not fit. 61 mm is the hard maximum.

How an adapter ring is defined

An adapter ring always has a 61 mm outer diameter — it matches the base-plate hole. What changes from ring to ring is the inner bore and the width:

  • Inner diameter = your LNB’s neck diameter. Pick the ring whose inner Ø matches your measured neck.
  • Width = the clamping length along the neck. Wider rings (16 mm) grip more; the diameter class is the same.

You do not need a perfect match. The clamp accommodates about 0.5 mm either way, so a ring whose inner diameter is within roughly half a millimetre of your measured neck — larger or smaller — holds fine. If your LNB falls between two sizes, pick the nearer one.

How to measure your LNB

  1. Remove any collar or spacer ring first. Some LNBs ship with a removable outer ring (for example DX-Patrol’s grey collar). Measure the bare neck, not over the collar — measuring over it reads a couple of millimetres too large and sends you to the wrong ring.
  2. Measure with a caliper where the feed clamps — the front of the neck, not the wider body behind it.
  3. Check for a step or taper. If the front and a point further back read different diameters, the neck is stepped, and you need a conical ring (note both numbers).
  4. Match your reading to the table below.

Self-check: if a ring goes on but will not clamp even fully tightened / feels too thin, its inner diameter is too big — go one size smaller.

DX-Patrol LNBs: dimensions have changed

Current DX-Patrol LNBs have a neck of about 53 mm at the front (measured 53.0–53.3 mm on recent units), stepping up to about 57 mm behind. The older 55×10 ring no longer clamps reliably on the bare neck — it only holds if DX-Patrol’s removable grey collar happens to be fitted, and it is marginal even then.

If you have a DX-Patrol LNB: take off the grey collar, measure the front step (expect about 53 mm), and use the 53×10 ring.
